The Warehouse

Lick School - We invite people to come and speak about something interesting. These are all filmed and put on our Youtube channel. Caroline Lucas, the UK's first Green MP, did the first Lick School talk.
Lick Stage - We used to put bands on in the shop, so when we moved to the warehouse it felt natural to build an actual stage and put a neon sign behind it. This is where the Lick Sessions are filmed.
Yogurt Room - This room is full of science kit and yogurt making machines. We test new ingredients and methods in here. This is where new Licks get made.
Desks - When we have to do normal work like fill out forms and email the bank, this is where we do it.
Friends! Here we all are in the Warehouse. Rosie, Paul, Ky, Owain, Ash and Thomas. We all live in Brighton.
Music Studio - This is where music nerds go to record the audio for the Lick Music sessions, and sometimes we record bands for our record label. Here's Ash having a mix on the decks.
Lick Studio - This is an art space we donate to artists in three month residencies. You can apply for a spot via our digital application form.
Yoga - We host 'pay what you can' yoga classes at Lick, where people are invited to take part in an affordable yoga session, led by our friend Dionne Elizabeth (the one in the photo).

Artist Residency

Bettina Nem

We became aware of Bettina’s work way before she applied for a residency at Lick Studio. Her clothing label Nem! Clothing caught our eye because of her nifty tie-dye work, and then we started to notice all the other things she does – her photography and videos are particularly impressive.

Bettina studied at the Moholy – Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest before coming to Brighton to continue her creative paths in a different environment. Now she’s in the Lick studio until the end of June, and as always there’ll be a final show exhibition where Bettina will be showing off her work.

Bettina sent us a description of what she does, here’s what she said:

My work is themed around emotions and time and their relationship to each other.

These pieces are studies of memories, feelings and human relationships – visualisations of the incomprehensibility and elusiveness of all the above.

How do we experience our relationships? How do we perceive our space and surroundings? What do we really feel and how do we act on it? How do we feel about death and how does it effect our life? My observance is just a piece of phantom reality.

The work is a symbolic, visual combination of science, psychology and illustration – an attempt to reminisce by picturing feelings.

Illustration, general, colourful and levitating.

Check out the Lick Studio Facebook page and the Lick instagram account for updates of her time at the Warehouse.
